The Adult Choir supports the musical role of the parishioners, embellishing our acclamations, and presenting choral music to enhance the prayer of parishioners at worship.
Adult Choir members are of high school age through mature years. The group rehearses on Thursday evenings in the Music Room at 7:30 pm, furnishes Ministry leadership on Sundays at the 10:30 am Mass from October through mid-June, as well as Christmas, Holy Week, Easter and other special celebrations.
They are always looking for voices to join our celebration of music to the Lord!
Cantors provide music leadership during parish Masses, particularly in the sung proclamation of the Responsorial Psalms. The Cantor usually acts also as the Leader of Song, encouraging and empowering the role of the Assembly in the sung prayer of the Eucharist.
Cantors meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Music Room. Cantors must have the skill and the ability to present both seasonal and appointed psalmody in a manner which invites and encourages musical participation. Cantors come from existing groups in the Music Ministry: Adult Choir, Folk Group, Youth Choir and Schola. Four hours of formation are required. Cantors or Cantor/Leaders of Song function on Saturdays at 5:00 pm and on Sundays at 9:00 am, 10:30 am and 12 Noon Masses, as well as on Holy Days and the principal celebrations of the liturgical year.
Additional Cantors from any of the existing groups in Music Ministry are always welcome. The ability to read musical notation is helpful but not required.
The purpose of the Folk Group is to design, plan, coordinate, and provide music for all liturgies and other worship services of the Parish.
This group provides music ministry leadership for the 9 am Mass on Sundays from September through mid-June and for Holy Days and special liturgies during the year. The group also supports the special musical needs of other ministries in the Parish. Rehearsals are held in the Music Room on Wednesdays, from 7 pm to 9 pm.
This ministry is open to all musicians eleven years through adult. Members should have the ability to sing a simple melody with correct pitch and rhythm. Additionally, musicians should be able to take instruction and should have studied their instrument for at least one year. The group is also actively seeking anyone who can furnish instrumental accompaniment on a regular basis. Occasionally instrumentalists would also provide special accompaniment for the Adult, Youth and Children’s Choirs.
The Youth Choir supports the music ministry by leading the assembly, embellishing the acclamations, and presenting choral music to enhance the prayer of the Parish at worship.
The choir consists of boys and girls in grades 2 through high school and provides music for the Saturday 5:00 pm Mass and for special occasions in connection with First Penance and First Communion, as well as Christmas Eve and Palm Sunday. They rehearse on Saturday afternoons, in the Music Room, from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm from October through April. Within the Youth Choir is an auditioned group, the Schola. Members are in middle school and up and furnish more difficult music in the group. The Schola rehearses on Saturdays from 3:30 to 4:00 pm.
The group is always seeking new members to add their voices in celebration. Volunteer assistants are also needed.
