MMOG will be hosting families
for a week from June 22 - June 29, 2025What is HOME? Housing, Outreach, Multifaith, Empowerment. One important service that HOME provides is emergency shelter at houses of worship throughout Somerset County. Mary Mother of God is one of these houses of worship and we will be hosting 2 families in June.
There are many needs to be filled for a HOME Week. Each host week requires about 50 volunteers and over 300 hours of work. A HOME week gives volunteers wonderful opportunities to give of your time, talent and/or treasure. This volunteering opportunity can be a one time event, or you can volunteer everytime we host, it is up to you. We guarantee you will reap many blessings from participating!Here’s how you can help! Click on the links below for the various volunteer opportunities to find out in detail what is required for each task and to signup.
- SETUP TEAM: Saturday, between 10:00AM -12:00PM.
- Set up the classrooms for our guests. This entails unloading, moving and making the roll-away beds, and setting up the rooms for our guests. Setup also takes care of setting up the dining area in the Youth Center.
- HOME SHOPPERS - at least 2 volunteers needed for shopping trips
- Volunteers will be given the funds needed for their shopping trip
- First volunteer will need to shop for the first half of the week and deliver the order around 5PM on Sunday, June 22nd.
- Second volunteer will need to shop for the second half of the week and deliver the order around 5PM on Wednesday, June 25th.
- ITEM DONATIONS - Donate both perishable and non-perishable items for the week.
- Shop for basic provisions, snack and lunch food.
- NON-PERISHABLE ITEMS: Drop off non-perishable items from on our list in the gathering space in the box marked HOME before or after Masses the weekend of June 14 & 15.
- PERISHABLE ITEMS: Drop off perishable items from our list in the concession kitchen by the gym on the date you signed up for.
- CHEF's - Dinner - Bring food between 5:00 and 5:30PM, set up for dinner by 6PM. Prepare enough for 10 - 12 people, plus extra for lunch the next day.
- Prepare a food at home, and drop off the food you signed up to bring between 5:00 and 5:30 PM in the evening and setup for dinner which is at 6:00PM. You may stay and dine if you like making sure to add yourself to the headcount for that meal.
- BAKER - Bake goodies for 10-15 people
- Bring baked goods to the concession kitchen by the gym around 5PM
- EVENING/YOUTH HOSTS - Evening Hosts will volunteer from 5:30 - 8:45 or 9:00 PM, Youth Hosts will volunteer from 6:30PM - 8:30PM.
- Evening Hosts will come and help set up for dinner, you may dine with our guests, then help clean up after.
- Evening and Youth Hosts will help children with homework, read to or play a game with a child or simply provide companionship to our guests.
- We ask that at least one or two volunteers stay until the Overnight volunteer arrives.
- OVERNIGHT HOSTS - Arrive between 8:45 and 9:00 PM and stay through the early morning.
- Spend the night! Comfortable cots are provided for you in a private room. We recommend that you can bring your own pillow and linens (twin), however we do have some for you if needed.
- Wake up our guests in the morning (Mon-Fri @ 5:30 AM, Sat&Sun @ 7:30 AM), help them with breakfast, and getting on the vans with their lunches (Mon-Fri @ 6:00 AM, Sat&Sun @ 8:00 AM).
- Clean up coffee area, turn off lights in all rooms that were used, lock doors.
- CLEAN-UP TEAM - Sunday, June 29th from 8:15 AM to 12:00 PM
- Volunteers will help to put back the classroom and Youth Center to the original way we found it.
